  1. 3-3-94                    Fax Class
  2.  
  3.      There  are 3 types of Zoom faxmodems. HCS/MXS - Sendfax  (send  only),
  4. Class-1  and  Class-2. The software you use has to match the type  of  fax-
  5. modem.  Class  refers to the way the Software talks to the modem,  not  the
  6. kind  of  fax machine. Class-1 the software does most of  the  negotiating,
  7. Class-2  the  modem  does  the work. All fax  machines  should  be  Group-3
  8. compatible,  and all 'class' modems make group-3 compatible fax files.  HCS
  9. and  MXS are send-only. AFC/AFX/Pkt-2400 and the 14.4 RPI are Class-1.  All
  10. other  Zoom Faxmodems are Class-2. You can try Class-1 with  Zoom  V-series
  11. modems too.

  13.      Class-1  fax does the negotiating in the computer, rather than in  the
  14. modem.  I doubt in a modern computer (486 +) it will slow the  computer  at
  15. all. Sometimes class-1 negotiates better, sometimes class-2 does. I  always
  16. use Class-2 as my default and try Class-1 if I have a problem.

  18.      HC2400R/MX2400R  are  data-only  modems, as are  modems  with  the  TI
  19. chipset, and old full-card 2400/1200 modems.

  21.      No  Zoom FaxModem is CAS compatible without a proper CAS  driver  that
  22. works with class-1 or 2 faxmodems.

  24.      To set to a mode    AT+FCLASS=1  (or 2 or 0).
